Artists Europop

The Europop genre refers to a form of European pop strongly influenced by dance, synth-pop and electronic music accessible to the general public. Gradually emerging from the 1980s and then widely popularized in the 1990s and 2000s, Europop is characterized by immediate melodies, catchy choruses, modern productions and a desire to reach a very broad audience, both on the radio and in clubs.

Europop is not a strictly defined subgenre like house or trance, but rather a European pop movement that crosses several neighboring styles. It has close ties with Dance Pop, Eurodance, Bubblegum Dance and certain forms of electronic pop. Compared to Eurodance, Europop generally places more emphasis on the song, pop structure and melodic effectiveness, with a often greater role given to singing than to purely club-oriented elements.

The style was carried by artists and groups such as Ace of Base, Aqua, Vengaboys, Modern Talking, E-Rotic, Army of Lovers or Alcazar. Europop occupies an important place in the history of European popular music, between dance heritage, pop aesthetics and an international dimension.
