The style Techno

The Techno genre is one of the founding currents of modern electronic music, which emerged in the mid-1980s in Detroit, United States. Born from the meeting of the synthetic sounds of electro, the legacy of funk, European synth-pop, and experiments stemming from house and industrial music, Techno established itself as futuristic, repetitive music deeply tied to club culture. It stands out for its mechanical rhythms, hypnotic loops, electronic basslines, and an approach that is often more minimal and colder than house.

Techno is not a subgenre of house, but a genre in its own right, born at the same time and having evolved in parallel. The two styles share common roots in electronic dance music, but Techno develops a more industrial, more cerebral identity, often more oriented toward repetition and sonic tension. It then gave rise to many subgenres such as Detroit Techno, Minimal Techno, Hard Techno, Acid Techno, Schranz, and also certain forms of Tech House when it intersects with house.

The style was carried by major artists such as Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin or Dave Clarke. Today, Techno remains an essential pillar of the global electronic scene, both in underground clubs and at major festivals.
