The style Eurodance

The Eurodance genre is a subgenre of European dance that emerged in the early 1990s, at the crossroads of house, hip-house, Hi-NRG, techno and rap. Born mainly in continental Europe, it is characterized by a formula that has become iconic: fast electronic beats, very melodic choruses, sung female vocals, and spoken or rapped verses. Eurodance quickly established itself as one of the decade’s most popular styles, both in clubs and on the radio.

Eurodance has close ties with Euro-house, from which it borrows some of the club energy and accessible structures, but it develops a more straightforward, more commercial identity, often more strongly marked by the contrast between singing and rap. It also influenced or coexisted with other movements such as Bubblegum Dance, Hands Up, Dance Pop, and certain forms of Happy Hardcore or ItaloDance.

Popularized by artists such as 2 Unlimited, Culture Beat, Snap!, Corona, Haddaway, La Bouche or Masterboy, the Eurodance genre remains today one of the major symbols of 1990s dance and an essential reference of European party music.
