La Bouche

La Bouche

Biography

La Bouche is a German‑American eurodance duo, founded in 1994 in Frankfurt am Main by producer Frank Farian. The project brought together Farian, techno DJ Ulli Brenner and producer Amir Saraf for the music production, while stage and vocal performances were provided by American singer Melanie Thornton and American rapper/singer Lane McCray.

They achieved international success with tracks such as Be My Lover (top 10 across Europe and No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1996), as well as Sweet Dreams, You Won't Forget Me and S.O.S.. Their studio albums include Sweet Dreams (1995) and A Moment of Love (1997).

In 2000, Melanie Thornton left the group to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Natascha Wright on the single All I Want, which failed to achieve the expected success and led to a temporary split. Thornton’s solo career took off with Wonderful Dream, but she tragically died on 24 November 2001 in the crash of Crossair Flight 3597 near Zurich, Switzerland.

In 2002, as a tribute, Frank Farian released the posthumous track In Your Life, combining earlier vocal recordings of Thornton and McCray with additional vocals by Kayo Shekoni (Le Click). The same year saw the release of the compilation The Best of La Bouche featuring Melanie Thornton.

Lane McCray continues to perform worldwide under the name La Bouche; in 2015 he added the Hungary‑born singer Sophie Cairo as the group’s official vocalist. A remix, Sweet Dreams 2017, was released featuring McCray and Cairo. Other artists associated with the project include Dana Rayne.
