Artists House

The style House

The House genre is one of the foundational movements of modern electronic music, which emerged in the early 1980s in Chicago as a direct continuation of disco, funk, soul, and the first electronic experiments. House is characterized by a steady 4/4 rhythm, danceable basslines, repetitive loops, and a hypnotic approach designed for clubs. More minimalist than the disco it came from, it laid the foundations for a large part of the dance and electronic music that would follow.

House is not only a genre in its own right: it is also the source of many major subgenres. From Deep House to Progressive House, including Electro House, Tech House, French House, or Euro-House, it gave birth to a multitude of movements that adopt its rhythmic structure while adding other influences. It also maintains close ties with techno, garage house, dance, and certain more modern forms of EDM.

The genre was driven by artists and producers such as Frankie Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard, Robin S., Crystal Waters, CeCe Peniston or David Morales. Today, House remains one of the absolute pillars of club culture and the history of electronic music.
