The style Pop

The Pop genre refers to one of the major currents of modern popular music. The word “pop” comes from “popular music” and became established from the 1950s and 1960s to designate accessible, melodic music designed to reach a very wide audience. Pop draws its origins from rock’n’roll, soul, rhythm and blues, and the earliest forms of commercial music broadcast widely on the radio. Over time, it has become a central genre in its own right, constantly evolving.

Pop is not a subgenre of electronic music or dance, but a broad, cross-cutting genre that connects with many other styles. Over the decades it has incorporated influences from rock, funk, disco, dance, house, R&B, and electro. It is precisely from these crossovers that subgenres or hybrid styles such as Dance Pop, Synthpop, Electropop, or certain forms of Europop have emerged.

The style has been embodied by artists such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, ABBA or Dua Lipa. Thanks to its ability to absorb the trends of each era, Pop remains today one of the most influential genres in the global music industry.
