Kelis

Kelis, born Kelis Rogers, is an American singer and songwriter born on August 21, 1979, in Harlem, New York. She is also known by the aliases Kelis Rogers and Kelis Jones-Rogers. Among the members associated with her project is Alfredo Ortiz.

Graduating from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in 1997, Kelis studied violin for fourteen years. Her music career truly began when she signed a production deal with the duo The Neptunes, who produced her debut album, *Kaleidoscope*, released in 1999.

Her second album, *Wanderland* (2001), was not distributed in the United States, creating tensions with her then-record label, Virgin.

Kelis’ career gained new momentum with her third album, *Tasty* (2003), which contains the hit single Milkshake. The track was nominated for Grammy Awards and reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play Songs chart in December 2003.

Her following album, *Kelis Was Here* (2006), was certified Silver in the United Kingdom for sales exceeding 60,000 copies.

Kelis made a notable turn towards electronic music with her album *Flesh Tone* (2010). This work, her first fully electronic-oriented album, benefited from productions by genre figures such as David Guetta, Benny Benassi, and Boys Noize. The single Acapella, produced by David Guetta, preceded the album’s release.

Subsequently, she collaborated with Calvin Harris on the track Bounce in 2011.

Her sixth studio album, *Food*, was released in April 2014. Entirely produced by David Andrew Sitek, it marks a new musical direction, incorporating elements of soul, funk, and gospel, thus moving away from the electronic sounds of *Flesh Tone*.
