Hooja
Biography
Hooja is a Swedish musical duo founded in 2021 by Joakim Lithner and Markus Mattsby; they are from Gällivare and perform masked under the pseudonyms Hooja and DJ Mårdhund.
The project’s name, Hooja, comes from the meänkieli language.
Their lyrics are performed in Swedish with pronunciation characteristics of Tornedalen and the Malmfält, and partly draw on stereotypes about people from Norrland and Stockholm.
The duo’s image – sunglasses and snowmobile masks – has been criticized as a stereotypical portrayal of men from Norrland.
