Biography
Jvke, born Jacob Dodge Lawson (also cited as Jacob Lawson), is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and social media personality, born March 3, 2001 in Providence, Rhode Island. His stage name is stylized in uppercase and pronounced “Jake”.
The son of a music teacher and a pastor, he began piano lessons at a very young age, and sang and wrote songs for his church. He attended a Catholic school before transferring to the public high school in his hometown of Cranston. He studied at the Community College of Rhode Island for a year and a half, then dropped out to pursue music full time.
In 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns, he and his family joined TikTok. After an initial period posting varied videos including sketches, he announced his debut single, Upside Down. The song went viral in 2021, leading Charlie Puth to reach out for a remix.
In January 2021, he revealed on an Instagram Live that he was collaborating with Galantis on Dandelion. On July 15, 2022, he released Golden Hour, which he and his brother Zac Lawson wrote and produced, with Zac also handling the music video edit. It became his first Billboard-charting song, debuting at No. 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at No. 10, and it reached No. 19 on the UK Singles Chart. His first album, This Is What Feels Like (Vol. 1-4), reached No. 40 on the Billboard 200.
In October 2022, he was named an “MTV Push Artist” and performed Golden Hour live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. On November 17, 2022, he announced his first U.S. tour.
On December 8, 2022, he released Hero, a collaboration with Martin Garrix and the mobile card game Marvel Snap. In 2023, he appeared as a featured artist on Angel Pt. 1, a song by Kodak Black and NLE Choppa in collaboration with Jimin and Muni Long, included on the soundtrack for Fast and Furious 10.
On September 28, 2023, he released the single This Is What Space Feels Like, announced via an SMS with a video sent to fans signed up for his texts. On August 30, 2024, he released her. For 2024 and 2025, several collaborations connected to this song are mentioned, including ZVC (described as his brother), Annika Wells, Kaden Hawke, John Michael Howell, and Forrest Frank.
