Biography

Crystal Waters, born November 19, 1961 in Deptford Township, New Jersey, is an American singer-songwriter renowned in house and dance music.

She is the daughter of jazz musician Junior Waters, the niece of Zach Zachery and the great-great-niece of the legendary Ethel Waters. She runs the label IAH Records.

Her career took off in the 1990s with landmark tracks like Gypsy Woman and 100% Pure Love; each of her three studio albums, Surprise (1991), Storyteller (1994) and Crystal Waters (1997), produced at least one Top 40 single on the Billboard Hot 100.

She collaborated with Alex Gaudino on the international hit Destination Calabria in 2007 and accumulated twelve number-ones on the Billboard Dance Chart during her career.

Her song Gypsy Woman has been widely sampled in electronic music; she has received many honors, including six ASCAP Songwriter awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards nominations and one MTV Video Music Awards nomination.

Billboard included her on its list of notable dance artists in December 2016; her record sales are estimated at over seven million copies worldwide.
