Biography
Lian Ross, born Josephine Hiebel on December 8, 1962 in Hamburg, Germany, is a disco and pop singer known for her mid-1980s hits like Fantasy and It's Up to You, which charted in Germany.
She began her career in 1981 under the pseudonym Josy. In 1985, she adopted the stage name Lian Ross and achieved her first success with Fantasy, which reached number 22 in Germany. She released a series of singles until 1989.
During the 1990s, she performed under various aliases, notably as Joy in the dance project Tears 'n Joy, as Jobel for Exotica (2), and in 1999 as part of the dance project 2 Eivissa. She also used the pseudonyms Dana Harris (3), Shona (2), Joelle (3), Divina (6), Laura Branigan, and Jay Jay (14), among others.
Since her debut in 1981, the majority of her solo work has been produced, written, and composed by Luis Rodriguez, who also played a major role in her many side projects. She also provided backing vocals for Rodriguez’s productions for artists like Matthias Reim, NEA!, Mark Ashley, Oliver Lukas, and Kristina Bach.
Her musical style is associated with Italo disco, Italo dance, and Hi-NRG. In 2009, she covered the song Young Hearts Run Free, originally performed by Candi Staton in 1976.
