Haddaway
Biography
Haddaway, born Nestor Alexander Haddaway, was born on 9 January 1965 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
A musician specializing in Eurodance and House, he is the son of a local nurse and a Dutch oceanographer. After earning a doctorate in political science and history from George Washington University (Washington, DC), he moved to Cologne in 1989 and currently lives in Kitzbühel, Austria.
His biggest hit is What Is Love, released in 1993; the song, which reached No. 2 in the UK, was popular across Europe, North America and Australia, experienced a resurgence after a Saturday Night Live sketch that inspired the film A Night at the Roxbury (1998), and has been remixed and reissued dozens of times.
The follow-up single, Life, was a major club hit in the United States and Europe, and his debut album also produced I Miss You and Rock My Heart.
His 1995 album included two minor hits; later releases were largely unnoticed, but he retains a loyal audience in Germany, where he released the single Spaceman and the album Pop Splits in July 2005. He took part in the German reality show Comeback in 2003, then in the British Hit Me Baby One More Time in 2005 and also appeared on the American version of the show.
