Culture Beat
Biography
Culture Beat is a German Eurodance project founded in 1989 by producer Torsten Fenslau.
From its formation until 1993 the project was produced by Torsten Fenslau and Peter Zweier. The group’s lineup changed several times, working with different vocalists: singer Lana E. (1989–1993), rapper Jay Supreme (1990–1998) and singer Tania Evans (1993–1998). The pairing of Jay Supreme and Tania Evans proved most successful, producing most of their biggest hits, including Mr. Vain, Anything, Got To Get It and Inside Out; in 1993 Mr. Vain became an international hit, reaching number one in eleven European countries.
After the death of Torsten Fenslau in 1993, his brother Frank Fenslau continued the project with Peter Gräber. The group later continued with new performers, notably singer Kim Sanders (1998–1999) and Jackie Sangster, who joined Culture Beat in 2001. Other members and collaborators included Jens Zimmermann and Jeff Carmichael.
Culture Beat released several studio albums: Horizon (1991), Serenity (1993), Inside Out (1995) and Metamorphosis (1998). The project has sold over ten million records worldwide.
