Biography
Apotheosis is a Belgian electronic music duo formed by Luc Rigaux and Patrick Samoy, also known under the aliases Steve Humby and Andy Sykes.
The project also included Diego De Mol as a member at one point.
The duo is especially known for their early-1990s club hit O Fortuna, which samples the movement of the same name from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. This version was later banned from sale after Orff’s rights holders did not approve the use of his music, making it a highly sought-after record among collectors today.
As Apotheosis, Rigaux and Samoy were influential in the emerging techno and electronic scene. Their work spans a multitude of aliases, reflecting prolific output across various electronic subgenres. Among these many pseudonyms are The Operator (3), Activa, Deejay Booster, Sato, The Unity Mixers, Squad 99, Anthenoïde, Unity Power, Ex-Plain, Unity (2), Humby & Sykes, Hyper Space, Mastermixers Unity, Goal, Rozway, American Force, Isy Brown, Chicago Crew, Pump Up To Rhythm, Linnsky, Up Side, Christy, Empire Control, Eliminator, The Rhythm Section, The Mixmen, Abriko, Xenon (4), Radioactive (4), Hard Concept, K-Zanova, Two Wild Boys, Trans World Action, Pandemonium (9), Apostolis, Squad 9, Kingston Tee, Digital Brothers, Lips-Kiss, Nora Thompson, Christine Bonnivert and Lamba House.
