Biography

Marusha, real name Marusha Aphrodite Gleiß, was born on November 18, 1966 in Nuremberg. The German-Greek DJ, producer and presenter is an iconic figure in commercial electronic music.

She started her DJ activity in 1990 and launched her career in 1991 in Berlin with the weekly radio show “Dancehall” on station DT 64. After the closure of that station, she continued her show, renamed “Rave Satellite”, on the Berlin station Fritz. She also hosted the television show “Feuerreiter” for two and a half years on ORB then ARD.

1994 marked a peak with the success of her single Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The following single, “It Takes Me Away”, was also a great success and earned her a gold record. Her first album, “Raveland”, released that summer, remains one of the most popular dance albums.

In 1995, she continued her career with many performances in the techno and house scene, and received several awards such as the “VIVA Comet 95” for “Best Techno Act” and the “Echo Award 95” for “Best Female Artist National”. She was also nominated for “Best Female Artist” at the “MTV Award 95”.

She is sometimes referred to as Maru, Maruska or Marusha Gleiß. In the early years of her career, she was the partner of Fabian Lenz, known as DJ Dick, brother of WestBam (Maximilian Lenz). Her musical style is associated with rave, techno, happy hardcore and eurodance.
