E-Rotic
Biography
E-Rotic is a German commercial eurodance group formed in 1994 by singer Lyane Hegemann (alias Lyane Leigh) and rapper Richard Michael Smith (alias Raz-Ma-Taz). Their music is characterized by sexual themes and explicit innuendos.
In 1996, the two founding members left the group after a dispute with their manager and founded S*E*X* Appeal. However, Lyane Hegemann continued to record vocals for E-Rotic until the single Gimme Gimme Gimme (2000), after which singer Lydia Madajewski replaced her.
It was revealed that producer David Brandes performed most of the rapped parts in the studio, except on the first single. On stage and in music videos, performances were provided by Jeanette Christensen (lip-syncing Hegemann’s vocals) and Terence d'Arby (lip-syncing the raps), later replaced by Ché Jouaner.
The group saw several departures: Terence d'Arby (1996), Jeanette Christensen (2001), Yasemin (2002), and Lydia Madajewski (2004). E-Rotic achieved major success in Europe in the mid-1990s, then popularity in Japan.
Among the regular contributors are producers and songwriters Felix Gauder, David Brandes, and Bernd Meinunger, as well as performer Marcus Deon Thomas.
In 2015, the group returned to the stage with Lyane Hegemann and new rapper Stephen Appleton. A new single, Video Starlet, produced by David Brandes, was released in spring 2016.
In 2020, the compilation Greatest Tits was reissued for the first time on double vinyl with new mastering.
