DJ Lee
Biography
Michael Lee Bock, known as DJ Lee, was born in 1970 in Hamburg, Germany. His passion for music began at age ten, when he started buying albums and vinyl records.
His DJ career spans more than fifteen years, with numerous club performances. He was resident DJ at Hamburg venues Voilà, Traxx and EFX, and also performed at the Heizhouse in Parchim and the Viva in Wentorf. He took part in major events such as the Love Parade in Berlin and the G-Move, and has played in Norway, France, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Japan and Russia.
In 1998 he began collaborating with Andreas Bruhn, former guitarist of Sisters of Mercy, to produce dance music. Together they launched projects including TV Junkiez, D.O.N.S., M.L.B. Projekt, Upserver, Earth Bound, Fourth Inc. The Greatest DJ, Da Spacers, Shadows Queens and Scala; the partnership ended two years later.
DJ Lee then teamed up with Nils Karsten, also known as Van Der Karsten, creating projects such as Megara Vs. DJ Lee, Apollo and Chemistry. Their vocal trance anthem Dance made an immediate impact on the German, British, Italian, Japanese and Spanish charts, and their first single The Megara brought them significant recognition.
The duo was chosen by EMI Group for the trance anthem Full Intention, which reached the Top Five of the Top 40 DJ. Subsequent singles — Hold Your Hands Up High, Human Nature and The Musical Society — became hits and club anthems; their video aired on Viva Club Rotation and their releases appeared in Japan, Australia, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
DJ Lee and Nils Karsten quickly built a reputation for a distinctive sound and high production quality developed in Van Der Karsten’s studios. They are also recognized remixers, having worked on tracks by Starsplash, Darude, DJ Shog, Fragma, Cascada, Rocco, Project Medusa Vs. Exor, Special D., Beam Vs. Cyrus Dumonde Vs. Lange, Klubbingman, Marc et Claude, Brooklyn Bounce, Deepforces and Rob Mayth.
In 2005 they launched a new project called U.S. Test with a more progressive sound, exemplified by Magellan. The same year saw the release of Megara Vs. DJ Lee’s new mega-hit Outside World and DJ Lee’s solo single Fight Hard.
Other singles by DJ Lee include Blow the Mind, Tomorrow, For A Moment, Ready Or Not/Take Me Away, X-Perience, Visions Of Love, Partytime, Bitch, Shock!, The Goddess and I Know.
