Gareth Emery

Biography

Gareth Emery, born Gareth Thomas Rhys Emery, is a trance DJ and producer from Southampton, England.

He is the older brother of singer-songwriter Roxanne Emery.

In 2002 Mixmag, while he was a virtually unknown 22-year-old DJ, predicted he would become a major star of electronic music; that forecast was echoed by figures like Paul Van Dyk and Ferry Corsten.

He joined the global DJ elite, ranking 23rd in 2008, 9th in 2009 and 7th in DJ Mag’s Top 100 in 2010.

As a producer he created anthems such as More Than Anything, Formentera What and the seminal classic Mistral, praised by Tiësto, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten and Judge Jules.

His work was commissioned by Paul Van Dyk and Armin Van Buuren for their Vandit and Armind labels, but most of his music was released on his own Five AM label, which he co-owned and ran A&R for; DJ Mag described it as “the most consistent trance label in the world”.

In 2009 he launched the label Garuda, releasing tracks like Exposure and Metropolis; he is also known for distinctive remixes, notably his remix of Lonely Girl by Oceanlab, featured on the album Oceanlab Remixed in June 2009.

A podcasting pioneer, he launched his biweekly show The Gareth Emery Podcast in early 2006; the podcast became an immediate hit and was nominated for a Miami WMC IDMA Award in 2007 for “Best Podcast”, alongside Roger Sanchez and Pete Tong.

His touring schedule is international, from deserted-island raves in Indonesia to snowy mountains in Vancouver, major events such as San Francisco’s Love Fest and the 30,000-person Trance Energy in the Netherlands, clubs like Zouk in Asia and iconic venues like Bondi Beach in Sydney.
