Biography
Armin Jozef Jacobus Daniël van Buuren, better known as Armin Van Buuren, is a Dutch DJ and producer born on 25 December 1976 in Leiden.
He began producing house music at age 14 before turning to trance. Among his early notable tracks are Blue Fear, Touch Me and Communication. He is also known for numerous remixes for other artists.
Since 2001 he has hosted the weekly radio show “A State of Trance” (ASOT), broadcast on nearly 100 FM stations and reaching about 40 million listeners in 84 countries.
His career is marked by awards: he was voted number one in the DJ Mag ranking five times, setting a record with four consecutive years at the top (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and again in 2012. He has also regularly placed in the top 5 in subsequent years.
In the United States he holds the record for the most entries (21) on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart. In 2014 his collaboration This Is What It Feels Like with Trevor Guthrie earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.
Before devoting himself fully to music, he worked collecting glasses at Club Nexus and began studying law at Leiden University. He paused his degree due to his rising success, but completed it and graduated in 2003.
