Hardwell

Biography

Robbert van de Corput, known by his stage name Hardwell, is a Dutch electro house DJ and producer from Breda.

He began playing piano at four and at twelve performed his first mix at a friend’s birthday party in front of about a hundred people; his father then changed his stage name from Robert to Hardwell by translating part of the surname van de Corput from Dutch into English.

He rose to fame in 2009 with his bootleg Show Me Love vs. Be. He founded the label Revealed Recordings in 2010, launched the radio show and podcast Hardwell On Air in 2011, released eight compilations on his label and a documentary film, and issued his debut studio album, United We Are, in 2015.

His musical maturity arrived early: at only 25 he was crowned world number one in the DJ Mag Top 100 in 2013, becoming the youngest winner, and retained the top spot in 2014. A prolific producer, he accumulated numerous Beatport number ones, including seven consecutive in 2013. Notable tracks include Spaceman, Three Triangles (Losing My Religion), Countdown, Jumper, Apollo, his collaboration with Dyro and Bright Lights on Never Say Goodbye, and the single Dare You.

He is particularly known for performances at major festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Sunburn and Tomorrowland: his set at the UMF in Miami in 2013 became legendary, setting a record with more than 80,000 live viewers via the video stream and millions of views thereafter, and his Tomorrowland sets in 2012 and 2013 also amassed tens of millions of views on YouTube. He has also played events such as the Electronic Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, Electric Zoo, Creamfields, Coachella and Mysteryland.

In April 2013 he launched his ambitious world tour “I Am Hardwell” at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, and his residency at Hakkasan in Las Vegas with the “Go Hardwell Or Go Home” event series solidified his status as a major U.S. club star.

On 7 September 2018 he announced an indefinite break from touring to focus on his personal life, and he returned to the stage on 27 March 2022 closing the main stage of the Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
