Roger Sanchez

Biography

Roger Sanchez (full name Roger René Sánchez) is an American DJ, remixer, and producer, born on June 1, 1967 in New York, specifically in the Queens borough.

Born into a Dominican family, he grew up surrounded by a wide range of musical influences—from salsa, blues, and soul to disco, rock, and hip-hop—an eclectic background that strengthened his desire to reflect a broad spectrum of styles in his music.

He began DJing in the late 1980s, emerging from New York’s underground house scene and playing the city’s most high-profile clubs. He eventually left university to devote himself fully to music.

His international breakthrough came in 1990 with his first hit, Luv Dancin', released on the famed Strictly Rhythm label under his first alias, Underground Solution. Over the course of his career, he has used several pseudonyms, including The S-Man and Transatlantic Soul.

In 1996, under the Transatlantic Soul alias, he created the club anthem Release Yo Self, which sparked the Release Yourself brand. It became a global phenomenon, expanding into a series of CD mixes, an IDMA award-winning radio podcast, and an annual Ibiza residency.

On the production side, his best-known success remains Another Chance, which reached No. 1 on the UK charts. Built around a sample of I Won’t Hold You Back by Toto, the track appears on his debut album First Contact.

Sanchez is also recognized for his extensive remix work for superstars such as Chic, Daft Punk, Diana Ross, and The Police, and for contributions to the soundtrack of the film Blade.

As an entrepreneur, he founded his first management company, Indeep Productions, in 1991; launched the Narcotic label in 1994 with his manager Marts Andrups; ran the R-Senal imprint from 1999 to 2002; and in 2002 created his main label, Stealth Records, dedicated to house music and his own productions.
