Randi

Randi (real name Andrei Ropcea, born 23 May 1983 in Pitești, Romania) is a Romanian singer and producer associated with the dance and pop worlds.

Drawn to music from an early age, he began music studies in primary school and later graduated from the “Dinu Lipatti” arts high school, where he studied pianoforte.

In 2005 he co-founded the project Morandi with Marius Moga. Over the years he gained prominence as part of the group, described as one of the longest-running acts in the Romanian music scene, and received many national and international awards with the project. The duo released three albums in three years: “Reverse” (2005), “Mind Fields” (2006) and “N3XT” (2007). The group became popular in more than twenty countries, notably through songs such as Beijo, Falling Asleep, Angels, Save Me and Colors, and they performed frequently across Eastern Europe.

Milestones attributed to Morandi include 8 number-one singles (local and international charts), a reported 2 million copies sold of the debut album “Reverse”, and two MTV Europe Music Awards nominations for Best New Act (2005 and 2006). The track Angels is also cited as the most downloaded digital product in Russia and Ukraine. The group received awards including MTV Romania Music Awards 2006 (Best Song, Best Video), MTV Europe Music Awards 2008 (Best Romanian Act), and Eska Music Awards (Best International Artist 2008, Best International Hit in Poland 2009), plus a “Best International Song” prize at the Musiq1 Music Awards 2009. The album “N3XT” also earned triple platinum in Russia.

From 2011 onward, Randi pursued a solo career and opened his own label, Famous Production. In 2014 he launched his solo run with Prietena ta, said to have quickly reached the top of the charts, followed by releases such as Păteni vara viţior, Visător, Dansăm and Ochii ăia verzi, with a claimed total of over 400 million YouTube views.

He has also received solo-era awards, including a viral video prize from IceeFest & Cat Music for Your Friend, a Best YouTube Video award at the @MediaMusic Awards for Those Green Eyes, and an Excellence in Music prize at the Romanian Fashion Awards 2017.

Alongside performing, Randi works as a composer and lyricist, writing numerous songs for Romanian and international artists. Names mentioned include Delia, Loredana, Jo and Corina, with songs appearing regularly on radio and TV charts and online, notably on YouTube.
