Biography

Karen Jane Danzig, born 13 July 1972, is a British singer of German descent on her father’s side. She grew up with parents who were profoundly deaf; her brother is hearing and her younger sister is deaf.

Trained from a young age in classical singing at the Watford School of Music, she later earned a first-class degree in Music and Performing Arts at the University of Chichester and a postgraduate diploma in Dramatic Art and Musical Theatre at the Hertfordshire Theatre School. In 1992 she toured worldwide with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Her professional career began with jazz and pop performances in London and Bangkok while working as a vocal coach.

Her first major recording project saw her collaborate with Stock & Aitken as the lead singer of the pop-rock group The Park. She went on to write songs with figures like Ricky Wilde and Sam Bergliter and recorded for labels such as Serious Records and Red Rose/Millennium. Early solo releases include the funky house track Outcry (with Sam Bergliter) and DJ in Town. She also worked on several UK garage/2 Step projects and formed her own pop-dance girlband, TULA.

Karen Danzig is best known for her success in the clubland sector of dance music. She sang and co-wrote Heartbeatz with Styles & Breeze, which reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart in 2005 on All Around The World Records and appears on numerous compilations, including Now That’s What I Call Music! 60. The video remained at the top of the Box TV chart for four consecutive weeks.

She has co-written and provided vocals for artists such as Styles & Breeze, Flip & Fill, Love to Infinity and Micky Modelle, for labels including All Around The World, Ministry of Sound, Sony ATV, Can You Feel It and Serious Records. She has also collaborated with many other producers, including Billy Bunter and Kenny Hayes.

In 2007 she was chosen to perform all UK live appearances for Micky Modelle’s hit Dancing in the Dark by Micky Modelle, which reached number 10. She took part in the first Clubland Live UK tour alongside artists such as Cascada, Scooter and Ultrabeat, as well as the inaugural Clubland Ibiza tour and the Dance Nation tour.

She is published by Notting Hill Music/23rd Precinct. More recently she has been writing, recording and performing with songwriter/producer Bill Padley in the dance-pop project Radiola. Among her recent releases is also La La La La La with The Sound Selektaz.
