Micky Modelle
Biography
Micky Modelle, born Derek Mark McMillen in 1972, is a DJ and producer from Ireland. He rose to prominence in 2006 with his remix of the song Dancing in the Dark, originally performed by Belgian singer Jessy; the track achieved major commercial success, reaching number 10 in the UK, number 5 in Ireland and number 7 in Belgium.
His follow-up single, Over You, also charted, reaching number 35 in the UK and number 18 in Ireland. In 2008 he collaborated with Samantha Mumba on a new version of Gotta Tell You: the vocals were re-recorded and a video was filmed in London and Dublin. Although promoted on the Clubland Live tour, the song did not break into the overall UK singles chart but reached number 40 on the UK Dance Chart.
At the same time, he joined the jury of the Young Star Search competition organized by Belfast CityBeat and produced the singles of winners Rachel Pearson and Caitlin McClurg. His remix work extends to artists such as The Course and P!nk. Over his career he has been named Ireland’s Best DJ four times across eight years, has eight platinum albums that entered the Top 20 and nearly six hundred official releases on iTunes. He is also known under the aliases DJ Modelle, Femme Fatale and Derek McMillen.
