P!nk
Biography
P!nk, born Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, takes her stage name from her pink complexion and the character “Mr. Pink” played by Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs. She is married to Carey Hart.
She began her music career at 15 by forming the short-lived group Choice, signed to LaFace Records in 1995 but disbanded without major releases.
Her debut solo album, “Can’t Take Me Home” (2000), produced by Babyface and influenced by contemporary R&B, was certified double platinum in the United States and included the singles “There You Go” and “Most Girls”, both top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
She gained wider recognition with the collaboration “Lady Marmalade” (2001) for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack, which reached number one in 13 countries and earned her a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
With “Missundaztood” (2001) she shifted toward pop rock: the album sold over 13 million copies worldwide and produced the hits “Get the Party Started”, “Don’t Let Me Get Me” and “Just Like a Pill”.
Her third album, “Try This” (2003), sold less but won her a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
The following albums, “I’m Not Dead” (2006) and “Funhouse” (2008), restored her commercial success with songs like “Who Knew”, “U + Ur Hand” and the US number-one single “So What”.
Her sixth album, “The Truth About Love” (2012), produced two more US number-one singles, “Raise Your Glass” and “Just Give Me a Reason”, and was her first album to top the Billboard 200.
In 2014 she formed the folk duo You+Me with Dallas Green and released the album “Rose Ave.”.
Her more recent albums, “Beautiful Trauma” (2017) and “Hurts 2B Human” (2019), both debuted at number one on the Billboard 200; “Beautiful Trauma” was the third best-selling album worldwide that year. Her ninth studio album, “Trustfall” (2023), peaked at number two on the Billboard 200.
P!nk has sold more than 135 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She is the most streamed female solo artist in the UK in the 21st century, and Billboard named her the Pop Songs Artist of the 2000s decade.
Her honors include three Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, a Daytime Emmy Award, seven MTV Video Music Awards and two MTV Europe Music Awards, as well as the BMI President’s Award, the People’s Champion Award and the iHeartRadio Icon Award; Billboard also recognized her as Woman of the Year 2013, Billboard Icon and Billboard Legend of Live. VH1 ranked her tenth on its list of the 100 greatest women in music.
She is also known by the aliases Alecia Moore and Plasce.
