Talla 2XLC
Biography
Talla 2XLC, real name Andreas Tomalla, is a German electronic DJ, producer and musician based in Frankfurt am Main. From the mid-1980s, while working in a record store, he advocated for the use of the term “techno” to refer to a wide range of danceable electronic music. In 1984, he co-founded the Technoclub event at the Dorian Gray disco. From 1987, he was associated with the label ZYX (Techno Drome International), a link often seen as evidence of his role in the early development of the genre, although his own productions at the time were more focused on EBM and industrial dance, with house, synth-pop and new beat influences.
In 1988, he launched the project Bigod 20, which became one of the most successful EBM acts in Europe in the early 1990s. The following year, in 1989, to distribute this music and other industrial productions, he co-founded the Music Research conglomerate and its main subsidiary, Zoth Ommog Records, an important label for the underground electronic scene.
After the dissolution of Bigod 20 in 1994, Talla 2XLC focused more on techno and its subgenres, especially epic trance. He returned to DJing in 1995 and became, in the late 1990s, a renowned trance remixer and DJ. In 1997, with Sony Records, he launched the @Technoclub compilation series, which helped introduce many underground techno tracks to the European mainstream.
Throughout his career, he collaborated with several production partners: Vernon B. (until 2000), J.D. Wood and DJ Frost (2000-2003), Woody Van Eyden and Alex M.O.R.P.H. (2004-2005), then Andreas Schmidt (2006-2010). He is also known under various aliases and pseudonyms such as T2, Two Of China, Technoclub Inc., Ramona Ader, Andreas Tomalla, Zyrus 7, Andrei Vasile and Rraw!. His work also included projects like Micro Chip League, Robotiko Rejekto, Pluuto, Richard Cube and the Lovestern Galaktika Project.
