Biography

RMB is a German electronic music group formed in 1993; the project’s name is an acronym derived from the initials of its founder, Rolf Maier-Bode. It is actually a duo composed of Maier-Bode and Farid Gharadjedaghi; the two met in 1991 while working for the label Adam & Eve — one as a producer and the other as A&R manager.

After two releases under the name RMB, they left Adam & Eve in 1993 to join the label Low Spirit. Their 1996 single, Spring, became a gold record in Germany with over 250,000 copies sold; the following track, Reality, reached number 11 on the Media Control charts. They later collaborated with artists such as Sharam Jey and Talla 2XLC.

In 1998 they founded their own label, Various Silver Recordings. Associated with the German rave scene, they also engaged in environmental activism alongside Greenpeace, protesting against nuclear tests at the atoll of Moruroa; the B-side Our Trip to Mururoa, included on the single Passport to Heaven, is dedicated to that cause.

The duo split in 2007 due to creative differences, which interrupted production of their album “Evolution”, finally released digitally in 2009. After the split, Rolf Maier-Bode pursued a solo career under his real name and released the ambient album THIRTEEN STORIES in March 2009.
