Biography

Sia, born Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, is an Australian singer, songwriter, producer, and music video director, born on December 18, 1975, in Adelaide. Her musical career began in the mid-1990s in Adelaide’s acid jazz scene. At age 17, she joined the jazz-funk band Crisp. After the band’s split in 1997, she embarked on a solo career and released her first trip-hop album, “OnlySee”, under her full name Sia Furler.

She gained initial international recognition through her distinctive vocal contributions to the albums of the British duo Zero 7, adding a jazzy touch to their music. Her song “Breathe Me” gained prominence in 2006 after being used in the finale of the television series “Six Feet Under”.

Her breakthrough into mainstream pop came through collaborations on EDM tracks, notably with David Guetta on “Titanium” and with Flo Rida on “Wild Ones”. She also distinguished herself as a highly sought-after songwriter, writing for artists such as Rihanna (“Diamonds”), Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears.

Starting in 2014, she adopted a visual signature by hiding her face in public appearances and in her music videos, often featuring the young dancer Maddie Ziegler. Her album “1000 Forms of Fear” reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and contained the international hit Chandelier.

Her seventh studio album, “This Is Acting” (2016), is mainly composed of songs originally written for other artists. It features the single Cheap Thrills, which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2018, she formed the supergroup LSD (53) with Labrinth and Diplo, with whom she released an album the following year.
