Christina Aguilera
Biography
Christina María Aguilera, born December 18, 1980, in Staten Island, New York, is an American singer, songwriter, actress and television personality.
Known for her four-octave vocal range, she has been regarded as a pop icon and was called the ‘voice of a generation’ early in her career. Rolling Stone ranked her among the 100 greatest singers of all time; in 2009 she was the youngest and only artist under 30 on that list.
Her media career began on television in shows such as Star Search and The All New Mickey Mouse Club (1993–1994). In 1998 she recorded the song Reflection for Disney’s animated film Mulan, and was later recognized as a Disney Legend for her contributions to the Walt Disney Company.
Signed to RCA Records, her self-titled debut album Christina Aguilera (1999) was an immediate success and produced three Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles: Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants and Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You).
Seeking to move beyond a teen-idol image, she reinvented her artistry with Stripped (2002) and Back to Basics (2006), which featured international hits such as Dirrty, Beautiful, Ain't No Other Man and a cover of Lady Marmalade.
In the early 2010s she was featured on several international top-ten singles, including Moves like Jagger (with Maroon 5) — which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 — as well as Feel This Moment (with Pitbull) and Say Something (with A Great Big World).
She has also pursued a film career, notably starring in Burlesque (2010), to which she contributed to the soundtrack and earned a Golden Globe nomination; she appeared in the TV series Nashville (2015) and the films The Emoji Movie (2017) and Zoe (2018).
Additionally, she served as a coach on the competition show The Voice (2011–2016), acted as an ambassador for the World Food Programme and co-founded the company Playground.
Associated with the early-2000s ‘Latin explosion’ in pop music, she released the Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo (2000). Her work has earned numerous honors, including five Grammy Awards, two Latin Grammy Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and more than 100 million records sold worldwide.
Billboard named her one of the most successful artists of the 2000s and Time included her in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013.
