Nina

Biography

Nina Gerhard was born on December 10 in Darmstadt. She has sung since childhood and, at 17, received musical training in Frankfurt am Main, taking classical singing lessons (mezzo-soprano) with an opera singer.

She met eurodance producer Nosie Katzmann and in 1993 became the female voice of the global hit [song]More And More[/song] (Captain Hollywood Project). She also supplied vocals on the single [song]Honesty[/song] (Intermission).

In 1994 she began a solo career with the single [song]The Reason Is You[/song], produced by Nosie Katzmann. Her second release, [song]Until All Your Dreams Come True[/song], is also an energetic eurodance track. Shortly after she released her debut album Dare !, featuring figures from the eurodance scene such as Kim Sanders, Peter Gräber (of Culture Beat), Doug Laurent and DMP (of Intermission).

In early 1996 her third single [song]In Her Shoes[/song] was a pure ballad with no dance remix. The fourth, [song]Can’t Stop This Feeling[/song], returned to dance in a pop-disco style and reached number one in Italy for three weeks; Nosie Katzmann was no longer involved from that release.

After about a year-long absence she returned with the fifth single [song]Wanna Feel So Good[/song], produced by David Brandes, John O'Flynn and Domenico Labarille (of E-Rotic).

She also worked as a backing vocalist for Simon Collins, appeared on tracks by Vega and recorded a duet with F. Salzar under the name Heroes. In 1998 Samantha Fox reused the choruses of [song]The Reason Is You[/song] in one of her songs.

Settled in Darmstadt in 2002, she lent her voice to commercials for L’Oréal, Nescafé and Afri Cola, performed successfully at a salsa club in Los Angeles and recorded a duet with Markus Nikolai.

In 2003 she planned a comeback with the trance single [song]Tomorrow’s Yesterday[/song], written and produced by Doug Laurent and remixed by Andy Sikorski; dissatisfied with the versions, the track was reworked by Chris Hülsbeck and appears on his 2009 album Number Nine.

In March 2005 she took part, alongside Franca Morgano and other artists, in the recording of the charity single [song]Hope[/song] (project United Allstars) to benefit a Sri Lankan village affected by the tsunami.

In 2008 she joined the project Zamsoo (formerly Mondbrand) with Joerg Dudys, recording ballads such as [song]Sweet Devils[/song]. She also recorded a blues and jazz covers album, Muse, with songs by Hildegard Knef, Marlene Dietrich and Marianne Faithfull, and founded the vocal training school TonArt.

In 2016 she founded the project project1012 with Daniel Rohr. In 2022 she was the voice of the announcements for the final of the show Dein Song on KiKa.
