Do
Biography
Do, born Dominique Rijpma van Hulst, is a Dutch singer born on September 7, 1981, in Eindhoven, originally from Valkenswaard.
She is best known for providing the vocals on Heaven, the global hit by DJ Sammy released in 2002-2003, a cover of the song by Bryan Adams. This collaboration, produced by Yanou, reached number one in the United Kingdom and charted in the top 10 of many countries. A slower “candlelight remix” version with piano was also created.
Prior to this success, her first musical experience dates back to a performance at the Old Dutch café in Valkenswaard, which earned her a contract with Sony Music BMG. She even opened for the Dutch tour of the groups 5ive and Montell Jordan before releasing a single. Her debut single, Real Good, however, was not successful in the Netherlands.
In her home country, Do had a flourishing career with three number-one singles and several top-ten hits. In 2018, she re-recorded a dance version of Heaven with R3hab, which became a festival hit played worldwide, notably in Miami, Las Vegas, and Mexico.
A multilingual artist, she has recorded songs in English, Dutch, German, and French. She also collaborated with Ish and Sylvia Tosun on the partly Arabic track Habibi I Love You, produced by Basto.
Alongside her music career, Do performed in musicals, worked in television, and as a presenter. Her singing career earned her numerous awards, including two TMF Awards, the Miami Dancestar Award, a World Music Award for Best Dutch Act, the Cosmopolitan Fun Fearless Female Award, the Los Angeles BMI Pop Award, the Elegance Award, and the 100% NL magazine award. She was also nominated for an Edison.
In her youth, Do, daughter of renowned tennis coach Willem-Jan van Hulst, was a promising tennis player and planned to compete at Wimbledon at age fifteen, but an injury ended her sports career.
