Sylvia Tosun
Biography
Sylvia Tosun is a singer, songwriter, and founder of the label Sea To Sun Recordings. Her artistic path began early: at age 15 she was accepted to the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York, where she studied classical voice, dance, and piano.
She made her mark on international dance charts with multiple hits. Her collaboration with Loverush UK! on 5 Reasons reached No. 1 on the DMC World Charts in 2009, while also charting at No. 2 in the UK and No. 7 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Play. The following year, her anthem Push n Pull peaked at No. 1 on Billboard Club Play and No. 5 on the UK’s Music Week Upfront Club chart.
Tracks such as Underlying Feeling, Head Over Heels, Sanctuary, and Sleepless further cemented her presence in clubs. Her projects are often mixed by Grammy Award–winning mix engineer Tom Lord-Alge.
Her first album project, Anthem: Vol. 1 (2002), was a collection of world-music anthems sung in their original languages. It led to an invitation to perform alongside Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper at the Great Wall Concert in China in 2005, where she sang in Mandarin. Her second studio album, Jump In (2005), placed songs in TV series such as The L Word and Dawson’s Creek.
She also created and filmed The Venus Concert, a stage show centered on women’s empowerment, broadcast on MTV’s MHD channel and marking the network’s first collaboration with an independent artist. This achievement earned her an invitation to perform at the United Nations for International Women’s Day.
Alongside her music career, Sylvia Tosun is an accomplished interior designer who oversaw the 2010 renovation of the rooftop bar Upstairs at the Kimberly Hotel in Manhattan. Her work has been recognized with a BMI Songwriters Hall of Fame Excellence in Songwriting Award, a USA Songwriting Contest award, and the USO’s Ambassador to Goodwill Award.
