Basto

Biography

Jef Martens, known by his stage name Basto (sometimes stylized Basto!), is a Belgian DJ and musician from Hoogstraten.

He began his DJ career in 2005, specialized in electro house and is signed to the ARS label.

He had an initial local hit in Belgium and the Netherlands with the single Rock With You in 2005, widely played on Dutch radio Fresh FM, and later collaborated with Peter Luts on On My Own in 2008.

Success in France came with Gregory's Theme in 2011. The song, originally written as an orchestral piece in tribute to the character Gregory House (portrayed by Hugh Laurie), was transformed by Basto into a dance track.

His international profile grew through remixes for artists such as Kylie Minogue, Moby and Sander Van Doorn, and with the dance hit Again and Again in 2011.

He is also credited as producer of the hit 212 by Azealia Banks under the alias Lazy Jay. Other aliases include Bitch Boys, Candyman, Dirty Bunch, DJ Basik, Jin Sonic and Kings of Porn.

Over his career he dropped the exclamation mark and is now simply known as Basto.
