ATB
Biography
ATB, born André Tanneberger, is a German DJ, musician and producer born on 26 February 1973 in Freiberg, Saxony.
He is mainly known for productions in trance, ambient and progressive house; his biggest hit, 9pm (Till I Come), reached number one on the UK charts in 1998 and is widely regarded as the country’s first trance number one; the distinctive guitar riff, discovered by accident during studio experiments, became a trademark of his early successes.
In the UK he also charted with Don’t stop! and Killer. He continues to release music in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, with tracks such as I Don’t Wanna Stop and his cover of Olive’s 1996 hit You’re Not Alone.
His style has evolved to include more vocals and varied sounds, frequently featuring piano; the double album Two Worlds (2000) was based on the concept of music for different moods. More recent hits include Ecstasy and Marrakech from No Silence (2004).
The compilation Seven Years (2005) collects twenty tracks — including The Summer, Let U Go, Hold U, Long Way Home and I Don’t Wanna Stop — plus six new songs.
Several of his recent albums have highlighted the vocals of Roberta Carter Harrison (of the Canadian duo Wild Strawberries); Trilogy (2007) was co‑written with Tiff Lacey, and the single Renegade (2007) features Heather Nova.
Future Memories was released on 1 May 2009 with collaborations including Josh Gallahan (aka jades); the album’s first single was What About Us/L.A. Nights. Distant Earth was released on 29 April 2011 as a double CD including collaborations with Armin Van Buuren, Dash Berlin, Melissa Loretta and Josh Gallahan, accompanied by a third CD of club versions; its singles include Twisted Love (with Cristina Soto) and Gold (with JanSoon).
André Tanneberger maintains a connection with his fans via social networks and continues to tour.
