Kindervater

Biography

Jens Kindervater, born 13 July 1974 in Aachen, Germany, is a DJ and electronic music producer.

Having grown up in Aachen and completed his diploma in 1994, he began studying mechanical engineering but left to devote himself to music. With his future studio partner Bernd Johnen, he made contacts with the production company Alphabet City and released his first recordings.

In the mid-1990s he moved to Belgium, worked within the trance and techno scenes and performed in numerous renowned clubs. His solo career later took off when he was signed to the German label Kontor Records. He has lived in Aachen again since 2014.

Active mainly in the genres of house, Eurodance, hands-up and techno, Jens Kindervater is the founder and owner of the labels Kick Fresh Recordings and Yawa Recordings. He initially released tracks under the pseudonyms “Big Bass Inc.” and “DJ Jens” before primarily using the name “Kindervater” for his solo productions, collaborating with artists such as Mandy Ventrice and J-Son.

He is also recognised as a songwriter, producer and remixer, having worked for artists including DJ Antoine, Carlprit and Cascada.

His long-term collaboration with Bernd Johnen spawned numerous projects across different genres. He now mainly focuses on the Michael Mind Project, which he founded in 2007 with Francois Sanders (initially under the name “Michael Mind”) and which he often represents alone in concert; he works on the project alongside Frank Bülles.

At the same time, Jens Kindervater has been a member of several successful collective projects, notably 4 Clubbers, Dance United (a charitable collective of German DJs which he left) and The Real Booty Babes. Other past or present affiliations include Da Loop Brothers, Stereoboys, One 2 One, Groove Gangstaz and Warp Six.
