Ultrasun
Biography
Ultrasun are a dance duo from Melbourne, made up of guitarist, singer and songwriter Katie Michaelson and DJ/producer Christos (Christos Papathanasiou). New to the scene, they quickly established themselves as favourites, delivering a fresh vocal and uplifting trance sound.
Signed to Ministry of Sound in late 2002, they broke into the Australian charts with their debut single, Love Me More. Featuring remixes by German producer DJ Tom and Sheltershed’s Wil Foster, the track reached #12 on the ARIA Dance Chart, #2 on Sanity’s Dance Arena and #4 at Central Station Records.
The single received heavy radio play, was included on the compilation *Clubber’s Guide to Ibiza 2002*, and appeared alongside Paul Oakenfold and Armin Van Buuren on the *Ministry of Sound 2003 Annual*.
On stage, Ultrasun bring the distinctive element of live vocals, with Katie singing and Christos handling machines and keyboards. They performed for Heat on NOVA 100 FM, at the White Party at the Dome at QBH, and supported Ferry Corsten and Tall Paul on the *Ministry of Sound’s Annual 2003 Tour*. They also appeared live on national television on Channel [V]’s cult show *Room 208*.
Katie Michaelson brings more than five years’ experience as a singer and songwriter. Christos combines classical music training with technical production expertise. He has remixed for Supafly (Erotic City), DJ Panos (Lover) and Iio (At the End), and continues remix work under the Ultrasun name for labels such as Central Station and UK label All Around the World.
Their next single, We Can Runaway, again pairs vocals with precise production. It includes remixes by Voodoo and Serano (UK), Alex K, a highly anticipated Christos Club Mix, and a bonus Love Me More remix by Sonic State (USA). An acoustic version showcasing Katie’s voice is also planned. An animated video, created by 11 emerging animators, accompanies the release.
The duo are also active in the United Kingdom; another member associated with the project is Dave Watkin.
