Silvy

Biography

Sil and Silvy are pseudonyms used by Belgian singer Silvy De Bie (born in Lier on 4 January 1981), best known as the voice of the dance group Sylver. Discovered at age nine on Walter Capiau’s show “De Kinderacademie” (VTM), she first performed as Silvy Melody, recording Ben, a Dutch-language cover of a Michael Jackson song.

Throughout the 1990s she released several singles as Silvy Melody, including the duet with Danny Fabry De Telefoon Huilt Mee, plus Waar ben je nu, Hela Sascha, Alle dagen dansen, Nummer één, Liefde is… and a cover Il est si doux, c'était un arrangement de l'amour éternel (originally popularized by Love Affair). Her last solo single of that period was Wie is zij (1994).

A planned pop project, The Sprinklies, with a film and the single “Hey, Hey Sprinklie”, was halted when Belgian child labor laws ended her activity at age 13. In 1998 she attempted a comeback with the trio Lace and the single Find Me An Angel.

In 2000, after working in a shoe shop, she met DJ Wout at the Illusion club; he recruited her for his project Liquid and the single Turn The Tide was released the same year, reaching number one on the Ultratop 50 for three weeks. In 2001 Liquid was renamed Sylver.

She launched a solo activity as Sil in summer 2009 with Love Don't Come Easy. She left Sylver in 2013; the group reunited in early 2016 for a reunion tour.

As a guest vocalist she features on Sweet Dreams (2002) by MnC (a cover of Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Eurythmics) and sang I don't Care with Milk Inc. in 2004, trading vocals with Linda Mertens; the duet was performed again in 2007 on “De Provincieshow”. In 2014 she took part in the Eurovision Song Contest with What's The Time In Tokyo? and joined De Grietjes as Evi Goffin’s replacement until leaving at the end of 2015.

At the end of 2012 she portrayed Tinkerbell in the Music Hall production “Peter Pan – The Never Ending Story” for the Dutch-language shows in Belgium and returned for the 2016 revival.

On the personal side she married in 2005, had a daughter in 2007 and divorced in 2008. In August 2012 she opened a clothing and accessories shop in Antwerp which closed nine months later when the business was declared bankrupt.
