Pappa Bear
Biography
Pappa Bear, real name Godwijn June Orlando Ray Rollocks, was born in Curaçao, then part of the Netherlands Antilles. He is the brother of singer and producer Daisy Dee (Daisy Rollocks).
Before his music career, he worked as a chef, finishing top of his class and later becoming a head chef. In the early 1990s, he began assisting his sister in producing her music, then joined the group Black Male, with which he released three tracks.
In 1996, he signed with the label Booya Music, founded by Toni Cottura, Bülent Aris and Holger Storm, which promoted artists like Nana and produced groups such as the Backstreet Boys. He first appeared as a guest rapper on tracks by Nana and contributed to promoting her first album.
In autumn 1997, in collaboration with Jan van der Toorn, he recorded a cover of Cherish (originally by Kool & the Gang), which became an international hit. In spring 1998, the duo released another track, When the Rain Begins to Fall. His first album, What’s My Name, was released in May 1998 and includes the single Hunny Luv, featuring Jan van der Toorn.
He is also known by several aliases: June, Da Bear, G.J.O.R. Rollocks, DJ Jew-N and Boomroll, used for different projects.
A second album, planned for 2000, was never released due to the dissolution of Booya Music, although a track named Wunderful Life circulated online. After a long period of inactivity, he released new tracks on his MySpace page in 2009, including a cover of Jeanny by Falco.
