Edun

Biography

The artist known as Edun is actually Alice Sumbo Edun. She was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to a Nigerian father and a Russian mother.

During her childhood, she moved with her family to Africa, where she gained gospel experience in a Baptist church choir and at school. Later, after settling in Italy, she continued to sing gospel, soul, and pop, performing regularly both domestically and internationally.

In 2004, Grammy Award-winning DJ/producer Benny Benassi selected her from hundreds of vocalists via his “Benny Wants You” program. This led to her first recording in 2005, where she performed the lead vocals on the track Who's Knockin? (by FB). The song was remixed by Ferry Corsten and Benny Benassi.

Her solo career began in 2007 with the single Put 'Em Up, released in the United States by Robbins Entertainment. The track reached number two on the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart and became the most-played song on US dance radio that same year. It was also supported by Judge Jules on BBC Radio 1 in the UK.

Subsequently, Edun collaborated with various new producers and songwriters. She notably recorded and released Survive with Oscar Salguero. She also worked on new songs with songwriter Stephen Leuenberger.

Her first solo single, Put them up, was written by Sannie Carlson, also known as Whigfield, and produced by Favretto, an emerging Italian DJ/producer from Off Limits Recording Studios.
