DJ Project
Biography
DJ Project is a Romanian electronic and dance music group from Timișoara, formed in 2000 and consisting of producers Gino Manzotti (Handke Giuseppe) and DJ Maxx (Ovidiu Florea), accompanied by a lead singer.
Their first album, Experience, was released in 2001. The vocal lineup underwent several changes: the original singer, Elena Baltagan, featured on the early records until she left at the end of 2009 to start her solo project Ellie White. She was replaced by Giulia (Giulia Anghelescu); their first major hit with her was the track Nu in 2009, included on the album In the Club that same year.
The group enjoyed significant national success, winning the ‘Best Romanian Act’ award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006 and being named Best Dance Group at the MTV România Awards in 2006 and 2007.
Their sixth studio album, Două Anotimpuri, was released at the end of June 2007. In early 2008 DJ Project collaborated with Robbins Entertainment for the US release of the album Before I Sleep, marketed simply as « Elena ».
After Giulia’s departure other singers joined the project: Andia collaborated on the single Retrograd in 2019 before leaving the group at the end of 2021 to focus on a solo career; she was replaced by Ana Baniciu, with whom DJ Project released the single Iubirea mea in June 2022 and performed numerous concerts across Romania.
Their discography also includes the albums Spune-mi tot ce vrei (2002), Lumea ta (2004), Șoapte (2005), Povestea mea (2006) and the compilation Best of 15 ani (2015). Among their singles are Privirea ta (2005), Încă o noapte (2006), Prima noapte (2008) and collaborations such as Crazy in Love with Giulia (2012) and Omnia with Mira (2017).
