Mr. Probz
Biography
Mr. Probz, born Dennis Princewell Stehr, is a Dutch artist, singer-songwriter, and producer of Danish and Antillean descent.
He is known for his raps, songs, and choruses in Dutch and English. He began his creative journey at a young age, doing graffiti and writing lyrics about his everyday experiences, seeing music as an escape from a life of poverty and crime.
In 2010, he was the victim of a shooting in central Amsterdam, an incident that drew major media attention. Shortly after leaving the hospital, he returned to music and, with Kleine Viezerik, reached No. 1 on the FunX Hip Hop Chart with “Meisje Luister”. That same year, he became the first unsigned artist to be nominated for a BNN/State Award.
He also played the lead role in the first Dutch hip-hop film, “Bolletjes Blues”. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many American hip-hop artists such as Alchemist Project, Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Raekwon, and Royce da 5’9.
In 2013, his song Waves, performed in its original acoustic version on national television, became one of the biggest hits in Dutch music history and earned him a Grammy nomination.
He subsequently collaborated with major figures in electronic music, including Hardwell and Armin Van Buuren, both ranked No. 1 in the DJ Mag Top 100. In 2015, his single Nothing Really Matters went multi-platinum worldwide, accompanied by EDM remixes by DJs such as Afrojack. That year, Billboard Magazine listed him among the top 10 dance/electronic artists, alongside acts like David Guetta and Calvin Harris.
After appearing at several dance events with Armin Van Buuren, he refocused on solo projects, releasing singles such as “Fine Ass Mess”, “Till You’re Loved”, and “Gone” with Anderson .Paak. On May 18, 2017, his documentary “Against The Stream”, chronicling his path to international success, was released along with an official soundtrack of the same name.
