E-Type
Biography
E-Type, whose real name is Bo Martin Erik Eriksson, is a Swedish singer, songwriter and music producer born on 27 August 1965 in Uppsala. He began his career as a drummer in the speed metal bands Maninnya Blade and Hexenhaus.
His breakthrough in electronic music came in 1991 through a collaboration with Stakka Bo, resulting in three singles; he also worked as a VJ for the Swedish TV channel Z-TV. His first solo single, I'm Falling, was released in summer 1993 without major success.
In 1994 he worked with producers from Cheiron studio, notably Denniz PoP, Max Martin and Amadin, on his debut album Made in Sweden. The single Set the World on Fire reached number one on the Swedish dance chart and went gold in Sweden. The album, released on 31 October 1994, peaked at number 2 in Sweden and sold over 100,000 copies there.
Singer Nana Hedin, featured on most tracks of that album, became a recurring collaborator and appears on almost every E-Type album. His signature style often mixes rap parts performed by him with powerful choruses sung by female voices.
His second album, The Explorer, was released on 23 October 1996. His third album, Last Man Standing, released on 27 November 1998, became his biggest commercial success: number 1 in Finland and Sweden and three million copies sold worldwide; it includes hits like Angels Crying and Here I Go Again.
On 10 June 2000 E-Type performed at the opening ceremony of Euro 2000 in Brussels and composed the tournament’s official anthem, Campione 2000.
The album Euro IV Ever was released on 21 November 2001. In 2004 he collaborated with Max Martin and Ramon Zenker on Loud Pipes Save Lives, which to date is the last album to feature the voice of Nana Hedin. A new album, Eurotopia, was released on 31 October 2007, introducing a new lead singer for the project.
