Blümchen

Biography

Blümchen is the stage name of Jasmin Wagner, born in Hamburg on 20 April 1980. In 1995 producers Arn Schlürmann (Paralyzer) and Stani Djukanovic (Silence) sought a young female front for a dance/happy hardcore project and spotted Jasmin at an NDW radio party in summer 1995; weeks later she signed and became Blümchen.

The debut single, Herz an Herz, was released to stores on 23 October 1995, sold over 340000 copies and reached number 4 in Germany.

The first album, Herzfrequenz, was released on 23 May 1996 and reached number 29 in the German charts, remaining there until May 1997. The album was also issued in English as Heartbeat under the name Blossom.

In May 1997 Herzfrequenz left the charts to be replaced by the second album Verliebt., released in English as In Love (Blossom). The album Jasmin followed in 1998 and the live recording Live in Berlin in 1999.

Blümchen became known in France in February 1999 through a duet with Yta Farrow: Tu es mon île reached number 48 in France and received heavy airplay on Fun Radio.

In 2000 Blümchen released her fourth studio album Die Welt gehört dir, which included the singles Ist deine Liebe echt, Die Welt gehört mir and Ich vermisse dich. When Die Welt gehört mir only reached number 96, a press release in September 2000 announced the end of the Blümchen era.

At the end of 2000 she recorded a duet for Sweden with E-Type: Es ist nie vorbei reached number 28 on the Swedish singles chart; Sweden had discovered the artist later, early maxi singles before 1999 not having been released there.

Jasmin said she no longer identified as Blümchen and gave the final Blümchen concert on 11 February 2001 in Gerolzhofen before 500 spectators.

In 2019, after years working under her own name, in theatre and on television, she unexpectedly returned as Blümchen. She also worked on new songs; the original production team (Arn Schlürmann and Stani Djukanovic) was no longer involved. The first new Blümchen single, Computerliebe, was released in April 2019 (previously adapted in 1995 by Das Modul), followed by a duet with David Hasselhoff, summer go away, which had limited commercial impact.

In 2021 Blümchen returned to the German charts with the duet with FiNCH, Herzalarm, remaining two weeks among the best-selling singles and marking a welcome comeback for fans.

A controversy exists suggesting that Alexandra Prince might have sung the lead vocal parts on some Blümchen albums (she is credited for backing vocals on Die Welt gehört Dir) while Jasmin performed the shouted parts; this has never been confirmed or denied by those involved.
