Rocco
Biography
Sven Gruhnwald, known as Rocco and Sven-R-G, is a German producer and DJ whose career spans more than a decade; he has over 500 productions and remixes. His DJ career began as a resident at the ‘Ziegelei’ club, one of the largest in northern Germany near Hamburg, where he served as resident for ten years before reducing his presence to one night per month to focus on dates across Germany, Austria, Spain and the Netherlands.
His production career took off in the early 2000s when he partnered with Bass-T and Slobodan Petrovic, alias Pulsedriver, for the newly founded Aqualoop Records. His first release as Rocco, Back In Town Again, entered the dance charts and won over German dancefloors. Commercial success followed quickly with Everybody, which reached number 9 in sales in Germany and Austria in March 2002, selling 130000 copies and launching an international career with releases in Japan, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, France, Spain, Italy and Scandinavia.
Besides his own productions, Rocco collaborated with other artists, such as Spanish DJ Abel Ramos, on a track that entered the UK dance charts (Music Week UK). Under his other alias, Sven-R-G, he also enjoyed success; his remix skills were sought by Mark 'Oh, Groove Coverage and Drunkenmunky. Another major hit, Drop the Bass, reached number 5 on the German dance charts, hit number 1 on specialist charts like ODC, GDP and DMC, and entered the top 20 of single sales in Germany.
Alongside his artistic career, Sven Gruhnwald runs one of the most successful dance labels in the GSA (Germany, Switzerland, Austria), Planet Punk Music. He also works freelance for Universal Music on the Future Trance compilation.
