Bass-T
Biography
Bass-T, real name Sebastian Göckede, was a German producer and DJ born in Berlin.
He began music at eight with two years of drum lessons. At ten, after moving near Hamburg, he received a keyboard and took lessons, then joined his school band where he played for four years.
At seventeen, on a school trip to Spain, he bought his first record and became fascinated by vinyl. His DJ career began in earnest at nineteen when he became a resident at the Tower-Centre club in Flensburg for a year and a half, which opened doors to other clubs such as the Traffic in Kaltenkirchen and the Viva in Wentorf where he also served as resident DJ.
During this period he met Sven Gruhnwald (aka Sven-R-G); their friendship led them to set up their own studio and start producing. After some releases on minor labels, their work drew attention with tracks like 2000 Canarias ' Easy and 2000: Canarias ' Sunseeker for the Vision Soundcarriers label, widely played in clubs and attracting major labels’ interest.
The follow-up, 2001: Canarias ' Comin' up Strong/Viva Canarias, marked a milestone by entering the DDC charts at number 29, a record for their label at the time. Another project, Planet Punk, released on the Overdose ‘ Pulse label, also succeeded, reaching number one on the Discomania export charts and spawning three singles.
Their growing reputation led Spanish DJ Abel Ramos to commission them to produce his most popular single to date, which reached the Top 20 of the UK dance charts.
Sebastian Göckede died on 9 July 2013 of a heart attack at the age of 34.
