The Egg
Biography
The Egg is a British band from Oxford, consisting of Dave Gaydon on bass, Mark Revell on guitar, and twin brothers Maff Scott on drums and Ned Scott on keyboards. Other members such as Matt White, Ben Cullum, and Frances Ashman have also been part of the project.
Their music is described as a blend of house, ambient, hip-hop, and psychedelic. Their live style mixes house, rocktronic, funk, and ambient, using both electronic and acoustic instruments, video triggers, samples, and live and vocoded vocals.
Their cited musical influences include artists like Pink Floyd, Groove Armada, The Beloved, New Order, and Underworld, as well as the shoegazing and nu-gazing scenes.
The band has built a strong reputation on the British festival circuit but also performs comfortably in more DJ-oriented club environments. They have played across Europe, as well as in Australia, Brazil, and the United States.
Their commercial breakthrough intensified around the release of the album “Albumen” in 1996. They achieved worldwide success with Tocadisco’s electro-house remix of their track “Walking Away”, a piece close to Air’s style. A bootleg version of the same track by David Guetta also contributed to their notoriety.
Their most recent album, “Forwards”, was released in the United States. The band has collaborated with or been remixed by numerous producers and artists from the electronic scene, including Mylo, Rollo (from Faithless), Next Men, Decoder (from Kosheen), Fila Brazillia, Ulrich Schnauss, and Atomic Hooligan, among others.
The Egg is currently working on a new album with producers Benji Vaughan (aka Younger Brother), Greg Hunter, and Bruno Ellingham, known for his work with New Order and Goldfrapp.
