Biography

Sean Paul, whose full name is Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques, is a Jamaican dancehall singer and rapper, born on January 9, 1973 in Kingston.

His recording career began with the album “Stage One” in 2000. He achieved international recognition with his second album, “Dutty Rock” (2002): the single Get Busy reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, and “Dutty Rock” won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

His third album, “The Trinity” (2005), was also a major success, led by the number-one single Temperature. Several of his albums have been nominated for Grammy Awards in the Best Reggae Album category.

Sean Paul is also known for numerous collaborations on other artists’ hit songs, including Baby Boy (with Beyoncé), Breathe, What About Us, Rockabye (with Clean Bandit), Cheap Thrills (with Sia), and Fuego (with DJ Snake). The videos for Cheap Thrills, Rockabye, and his own single No Lie (2016) have each surpassed one billion views on YouTube.

He is sometimes nicknamed “Chanderpaul”, a moniker derived from the similarity between his first two names and those of cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

His discography includes the studio albums “Stage One” (2000), “Dutty Rock” (2002), “The Trinity” (2005), “Imperial Blaze” (2009), “Tomahawk Technique” (2012), “Full Frequency” (2014), “Live n Livin” (2021), and “Scorcha” (2022).
