Biography

Anne-Marie, born Anne-Marie Rose Nicholson, is a British singer and singer-songwriter born on 7 April 1991.

Her stage career began early: at the age of twelve, she shared the stage with Jessie J in a London production of *Whistle Down the Wind*. She also performed in *Les Misérables* after auditioning without her parents’ knowledge, an initiative that revealed her vocal talent to them. Alongside these theatrical experiences, she excelled in karate, becoming a three-time world champion – a discipline she credits for teaching her the discipline and focus needed for a music career.

Her music career took shape after a chance encounter secured her studio time at Elton John’s Rocket Studios. Impressed, his management company, Rocket Music, subsequently took her under its wing. A demo titled *Summer Girl*, released in 2013, attracted attention, notably from Ed Sheeran.

Before launching her solo career, Anne-Marie lent her voice to several electronic projects. She collaborated with the dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man, the London garage duo Gorgon City, and the progressive house trio Raized by Wolves. It was with the Brit and MOBO Award-winning group Rudimental that she gained significant exposure, featuring on two tracks from their album *We the Generation* (2015) alongside Dizzee Rascal and Will Heard. She then spent two years on a world tour with them.

Her first EP, *Karate*, was released in 2015 on Rudimental’s label Major Tom’s. Produced with Josh Record and Two Inch Punch, it included the eponymous single, a fusion of electro-grime and R&B, and the track *Gemini*. These releases launched her solo career. In 2016, the singles *Do It Right* and *Alarm* reached UK and international charts.

The year 2017 marked a turning point with her participation in the multi-platinum hit Rockabye featuring Sean Paul. The track reached number one in many European countries and Australia, and charted in the Top 10 in North America. She followed with the solo hits *Ciao Adios* and *Heavy*, featured on her debut studio album *Speak Your Mind*, released in April 2018. The album also included the track *Friends*, co-written and produced with American dance producer Marshmello.

She is also known by the names Anne Mair, Anne Marie, Anne-Marie Nicholson, Anne-Marie Rose, and Anne-Marie Rose Nicholson.
