Biography

Sir Roderick David Stewart, born 10 January 1945 in Highgate, London, is a British rock and pop singer-songwriter. He began his musical career in 1962 busking on the harmonica.

He joined The Jeff Beck Group in 1967 and became a member of the Faces in 1969, while pursuing a solo career. His third solo album, Every Picture Tells a Story (1971), was his international breakthrough, reaching number one in the UK, the United States, Canada and Australia, driven by the ballad Maggie May.

In the late 1970s he explored disco sounds, notably with the worldwide hit Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? from the album Blondes Have More Fun (1978). His music later shifted toward a softer, more melodic rock and mainstream style.

He enjoyed a resurgence in the early 1990s with the album Vagabond Heart and the single Rhythm of My Heart. In 1993 he recorded the ballad All for Love with Bryan Adams and Sting.

During the 2000s he released a series of successful albums of Great American Songbook reinterpretations. One of the best-selling artists in history with over 250 million records sold, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 as a solo artist and again in 2012 as a member of the Faces. He was knighted in 2016 for services to music and charity.

Among his many aliases are Harry The Hook, D. Throat and The Person Responsible For This Useless Information.
