Rank 1 is a Dutch trance and progressive trance duo formed in 1999 by producers and DJs Piet Bervoets and Benno de Goeij. Their debut single Airwave (1999) was an international success, reaching the UK top 10. They are renowned for composing the official anthems for major events like Sensation, Trance Energy, the Sunrise Festival, and Entrance. Their remix of Superstring was the anthem for the first Sensation edition in 2000. Their studio album Symsonic was released in 2002. Their live performances are historic, being the first live act to play at Sensation and headlining the main arena at Trance Energy. Their discography includes tracks like Awakening, It’s Up To You, and collaborations with Armin van Buuren, Alex M.O.R.P.H., and Jochen Miller. They have produced numerous remixes for artists like Freddie Mercury, Ferry Corsten, and Ayumi Hamasaki. They also operate under aliases such as R.O.O.S., A.I.D.A., and Southsquare. Benno de Goeij focuses on studio production, while Piet Bervoets is the duo’s DJ. Their artistic approach is centered on progression and perfection.
